Sun Season
Sun Season is the first piece in a series inspired by the 24 Chinese Solar Terms (节气, jiéqì).
The Solar Terms is an ancient calendar system that divides the year into 24 segments, each reflecting the sun’s position in the sky and marking significant changes in the natural world. These terms guide us through the seasons, from the awakening of spring to the quiet of winter, mirroring the cycle of growth and phases of change found in nature and within ourselves.
Lotus
A peaceful lotus blooms from the depths of the mind.
In many cultures, the lotus flower is a symbol of purity, enlightenment, and rebirth. In Buddhist tradition, it is associated with spiritual awakening and the journey towards self-realization, as it grows from the mud at the bottom of a pond to blossom into a beautiful flower. The mantram om mani padme hum reminds us to look to the jewel in the lotus of our hearts. A touch of goldfish, which represent good luck and prosperity, completes the scene.
Year of the Dragon
The Dragon (龙) is associated with wisdom, success, and abundance. People born in the Year of the Dragon are said to be confident, intelligent, and charismatic. 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon, with wood (木) representing new life, springtime, and growth.
According to Chinese folklore, dragons have the mythical power to control water and rain, symbolizing prosperity in agriculture and, by extension, abundance and achievement.
Dragon Birth Years: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024.
